Installing 3.4.1 on 1and1

I have been trying for several days to get 3.4.1 installed and running on a free 1and1 hosting account where PHP runs as a CGI. Has anyone been able to get 3.4.1 to work on 1and1? If so, did you have to do anything beyond the installation instructions?

Here is the config for my system:

http://s91679317.onlinehome.us/phpinfo.php

I get an error about acceptpathinfo at the finetune step in the installation wizard. If I ignore that error and fill in the rest of the screens, I get an internal server 500 error after the last screen in the install wizard. The install wizard creates and populated the database tables, but the site won't come up. I previously successfully ran the shell script included in the install sets the file permissions, so I think those are OK.

I have also tried a manual installation without any luck.
