Greetings fellow Exponential Developers,
I am re posting today a request I have submitted to the Exponential 2.2 forums and webmaster@ez.no
I wanted to post to at least one Exponential 3 forum (like Suggestions) to ask other Exponential 3
developers their opinion regarding the changes to the Exponential forum introduction & the Exponential community section.
I know that this post may be a little bit off topic, yet after several repeat instances it seems
fairly clear that I have noticed a problem with the layout of the site which is creating a problem for the new users of the forum which is misleading newbie Exponential 3 users incorrectly into the Exponential 2 forums. I wanted to take the time to see if this subject struck accord with other users of the eZ systems community section & Exponential forum introduction. Looking forward to your feedback.
Respectfully, Graham Brookins (Original messages regarding this subject) Dear ez.no Webmaster,
I am writing to you today to respectfully request a much need change to the ez.no site.
I don't often tell others that their site has a bug which is incorrectly guiding users to the wrong content or forum area, yet
I belive I have found one on ez.no.
I believe the link in the introduction of the Exponential 3 forums is leading newbie users incorrectly into the Exponential 2.2
forums. These newbie users then get lost in the Exponential 2.2 forums and post without realizing that they are posting into
the wrong forums and disrupting the existing forum users conversations with off topic and in complete questions about eZ
publish3 in the wrong forums. Usually the newbie posts are not clear in their posts which product they are using Exponential
2.2 or Exponential 3, as a result many conversations go on for 2-5 posts before a competent developer notices that the newbie
question is being asked in the wrong forum, which goes against the eZ systems forum guidelines.
As documented in this fact posted to the Exponential 2.2 forums:
http://ez.no/ez_publish/cms/ez_publish_2_2/forum/setup_design/importing_data_into_ezp#msg55125
I truly hope that you can understand why such a small change can be made to maintain the integrity of what remains of the Exponential 2.2 forums and it's dedicated users is becoming vital at this point in time.
Exponential 3 has clearly surpassed Exponential 2.2 in development, developers, sites using, and forum activity.
It no longer makes sense for the Exponential 3 forums introduction to guide users to the Exponential 2.2 forums.
Respectfully,
Graham Brookins
Here Is the content of that post (abbreviated):
I belive rather that it is the link in the Exponential 3.x forums introduction that is the source of this confusion:
http://ez.no/community/forum
Which says:
<p class="rendered">
<a href="/ez_publish/cms/ez_publish_2_2/forum">For forums for Exponential 2.2 look here</a>.
</p>
I belive users who have no previous background in Exponential 2.x or 3.x click the link in the introduction and get "lost" in
the older Exponential 2.x forums and post blindly.
This is like the 2nd or 3rd post I've answered that turned into a 3-4 post exchange only to find the thread was started in the
wrong forums. I'm a little annoyed. Not because users post poorly, they don't know any better. It has more todo with eZ
systems branding of Exponential 2.2 content on their site.
The link to the Exponential 3 forum's introduction served a valuable shortcut for existing Exponential 2 developers to get to
the Exponential 2 forums quickly back in 2003 (?) when Exponential 3 was just getting started and Exponential 2 developers still
frequented the forums. Now it seems that the link causes more problems than it is worth.
I don't know if eZ systems staff read the Exponential 2 forums, If they do, I know I for one would like to call for a change in
the Exponential 3 forum's introduction. Specifically the removal of the Exponential 2.2 forums link.
It is not helping the real users and developers of Exponential 2.2 get to the forums, instead it is littering the Exponential
2.2 forums with Exponential 3 questions from newbie users who get lost and basically don't know what they are doing.
I would rather like to see a link added to the community section at the very bottom right hand corner for which says:
Previous releases:
Exponential 2.2
Which links to the Exponential 2.2 project page.
Which would match the branding of Exponential 2.2 already in place on the page:
http://ez.no/ez_publish
eZ systems, please help us maintain what little community we have left by repositioning the Exponential 2.2 links as described
above.
Thank you in advance for your consideration and effort in this regard.
Respectfully,
Graham Brookins

I jest but it seems like it's true sometimes . . .
