Why isn't the "title" attribute in anchors not supported?

The snippet is pretty simple:

<a href="http://www.example.com/" title="Why is example.com important?">Example</a>

Upon saving the article, the error is "Attribute 'title' in tag link is not supported (removed)". Why? Clearly it's a valid attribute and in some cases for sec. 508 compliance even required.
