More specifically, changes in: design/standard/templates/node/view/search.tpl would be stored where in the design/plain/.....? And, changes in design/base/templates/menu/double_top.tpl would be stored where in the design/plain/.....? Thanks Neil

You have to create an override, eg. in design/siteaccessname/override/templates/node/view/ . This should be documented somewhere, use the search engine.
