problem with compiling templates in eZP 3.10.0

I tried to recompile the templates on my eZP (3.10.0) installation and I got a memory allocation error. This is what I have done:

- cleared the cache (by manually deleting the cache folder)
- started the compile script (bin/php/eztc.php)
- the compiling started and after 10% I got this error:

FATAL: emalloc(): Unable to allocate 62300 bytes

The PHP memory limit is set to 256MB which should be enough for compiling. Also when I run the compiling script for a few times in a row it finally succeeds to finish the compiling.

What could be the problem here?
