Override templates being created in wrong directory

I'm new to Exponential and have found it cumbersome and frustrating so far which I understand is not uncommon. I'm folowing the tutorial designed around 3.4 and operating 3.6.

When I created an override for /node/view/full.tpl I got an error that was "permission denied, could not create template". After researching the forums I changed permissions on "settings/siteaccess/mydesign" with chmod -R 666 settings/siteaccess/my_design.

I repeated the steps in the tutorial and received a reponse "There are no overrides for the </node/view/full.tpl> template."

I repeated the steps again and noticed that the edit page for the Template overrides indicates "Default template resource: design/admin/templates". I continued on and noticed that the "Create new template" page indicates "The newly created template file will be placed in design/admin/override/templates/".

I cheked this directory and there has been a file named full_view_welcome.tpl.

So where do I go from here? How do I change the setting to instruct the system to place newly created templates into the proper directory?

Thanks for your assistance.

Scott

Additional information...

When I change the permissions on "settings/siteaccess/mydesign" to 777, Exponential "sees" the current overrides in place and indicates "The newly created template file will be placed in design/mydesign/override/templates/" . However, when I try to create an override to "node/view/full.tpl" I get the "permission denied, could not create template" error once again.

I'm stumped and waiting on guidance before preceeding.

Thanks,

Scott
