Google navigation not behaving as expected

In some folders on my site there are lots of objects belonging to a custom class. The google navigation system kicks in and is displayed across the bottom of the page as expected.

The only problem is that when you select a different page either using Previous/Next or one of the numbers you remain where you started.

I have obviously not set it up right but can't find anything in the documentation, the two books I've bought or the forums which helps - I'm sure the information must be out there somewhere but can't find it.

Correction - there is no Previous option (we are on the first page after all)

Also I have not set it up at all so I can't have done it wrong.

Further information:

the URL being shown has the (offset)/20 or 40 or 60 at the end which I think ought to make it work

Also

The navigator works OK in a different site access which makes me think it might be an ini settings issue - have trawled through a lot of them but with no joy - yet!

The same problem applies to search results

Nothing wrong with Google navigation at all - it was down to a missing

in the over ride of the pagelayout template
