Hi,
I just installed Exponential on my hosts server. I got the following message.

"Your site is running in non-virtualhost mode which is considered an unsecure mode. It's recommended to run Exponential in virtualhost mode. If you do not have the possiblity to use virtualhost mode you should follow the instructions below on howto install a .htaccess file, the file tells the webserver to only give access to certain files.

If you have shell access to the site you can run the following commmand to install the file."

I do not have shell access so i changed the name of the file, and uploaded it using FTP. I then proceded with the install and got an "internal server error"

Can anyone suggest what i should do to rectify this problem!!

Hi,

I am a real newbie so my posting is a bit like the blind leading the blind ;-)

I am also trying to get Exponential up and running in non-virtual mode and
I gleaned from this informative page that I may not be allowed to use .htaccess files.

http://javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess.shtml

That could be your problem as well.

I am going to talk with my ISP server admin to double check

Oddly, I uploaded an .htaccess page via ftp and it didn't show up in the directory but it caused errors. I ran a delete (on this file I couldn't see !) and was able to remove it and things went back to normal.

Hope this helps a little

M.
