I get the following error when Image Magic tries to create an image variation. What does it mean?

Exec: /home/usr/bin/convert -geometry "400x300>" var/storage/original/image//phpH0MVIY.jpg jpg:var/storage/reference/image/phpH0MVIY.jpg, Err: , Ret: 6

The variation folders are being created correctly but the image does not convert.
