I discover that Exponential generate a bunch of png and emf file in Exponential installation root. What are those files?

It's an Ez 4..0.0 installation

Exponential by default does not write anything to its root dir.

Please
- check if those files have not been put there via ftp or some other deployment method error
- check if you installed custom extensions that have created those files
- check your ez settings to see if there has been some changes to parameters such as "vardir"
- check if you have installed other apps on the same webservers that are not updated to the lastest version and maybe subject to exploits
- update Exponential to 4.0.4 to resolve known security issues
- alter your server config. Exponential only needs to write stuff in the var/ dir (and /settings if you want to edit them via gui), the rest you can make read only

We get these too on various installations at random times.

I think these files are being generated when updatesearchindex.php or updatesearchindexsolr.php is run. I think they are created when pdftotext fails to convert some pdf to text.

I can confirm this. It is output of pdftotext tool. We had some similar problems.
