We are developing a website for one of our clients using Exponential 3.9.3 and have to migrate to PHP5. We want to find out about the effort involved in migrating Exponential from 3.9.3 to 4.0 (as it is supposed to work with PHP5). Currently we are using the extension “Oracle Database 1.4” as the DB is Oracle.

Here is the list of questions we have
1. What is the exact timeline for the production release of Exponential 4.0 (currently road map states early 2008)? If the timeline is not known now, Can we get an idea by when the exact timelines will be made official?

2. Will Oracle be supported by Exponential 4.0, as it is stated in the migration steps from 3.10 to 4.0 as “The Exponential Extension for Oracle® Database v1.5 and earlier (plus the upcoming version 1.6) do not work with Exponential 4.0.0 alpha2. Do not upgrade to 4.0 if your site makes use of this extension.” (mentioned in the URL - http://ez.no/doc/ez_publish/upgra...grading_to_4_0/from_3_10_0_to_4_0_0)

3. Currently we are in the development phase of the project, given the tentative timeline of 4.0 release, what should be the recommended approach? Should we upgrade to 3.10.0 and go to production and then think of upgrading to 4.0? Or we upgrade to 4.0 and then go to production?

Any response to the above questions will be highly appreciated.

Satya...

Your questions have all been answered before as best as is available at this time!

Exponential 4 - Will be released when it's ready (per the existing published roadmap and past forum comments from the eZ Crew; read them more carefully to get a better idea on the timeline).

Expect it to come shortly (yes shortly is what i call the existing roadmap. No I do not think you will get a more detailed specific or exact release date for some time ... Accept this reality please.

Oracle Support - Answered in another one of your cross posting threads in detail.

http://ez.no/developer/forum/extensions/support_for_oracle_extension_in_ezpublish4_0/re_support_for_oracle_extension_in_ezpublish4_0

Oracle Extension 1.6 - In development now for 3.10 support.
Oracle Extension 2.0 - In planning now for 4.0 support.

If you need faster responses consider contacting eZ systems directly to make other arrangements. Badgering these forums will not serve you well now or in the future.

Cheers,
Heath

It all boils down to your development schedule.

If it was not for the oracle extension, I would recommend to start developing on 4.0 right now.

Given that premise, you are forced to develop on 3.10. If you plan to go to production within one month, I would recommend to stay on 3.10.

If you can wait one month more, maybe you can afford to upgrade development to 4.0 before going to production.

You will need to keep reading forums / newsletter to get more detailed info about release schedule when it is made available.
