Successful external search integrations?

Dear Gurus,

I'm building out a site that pulls in quite a bit of information from an external CRM into an Exponential site. I'd like to have a site search that indexes this content as well, and thus am looking for a replacement for both the built in search and the eZ Find extension, both of which index things out of the Exponential database rather than the "end user" version of the site as I understand it.

What 3rd party / external search tools have you all successfully integrated with Exponential, or would you recommend? I've used the Google Mini in the past and quite liked it, but it's cost may be an issue here. Are there any good free tools that you all have experience with or could offer some advice on?

Thanks!
nate
