I see there's a ezmedia type for RealMedia, QuickTime, Flash and the likes, but there seems to be no support in EZ for playing sounds in the browser. Am I right or wrong? The number of files and features is stunning, so I might easily have missed the existence of such facilities.

You're right. There are no features for playing sounds in the browser in Exponential.
